Sessions: CEDAW and its transformative potential as a theoretical and practical tool in development processes

Foundation Indera on behalf of the project "The Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) and its mechanisms of action as political advocacy tools in development cooperation projects and humanitarian aid" together with the support of the Diputació de Barcelona, opened up a space to promote the need to incorporate among the actors and actresses of cooperation in Barcelona into their development proposals a human rights focus with a gender perspective, framed by CEDAW, in order to emphasize the promotion and protection of women and girls’ human rights.

Roundtable: CEDAW and its transformative potential as a theoretical and practical tool in development processes and other actions to mobilize in favor of women's human rights

During this meeting we will held the premiere of the documentary: "The womb of women" from director Mathilde Damoisel (France), which illustrates a case of very serious human rights violation : that of the indigenous Peruvian women sterilized by force under Alberto Fujimori’s government. We will see how this case is being turned to international justice so that he does not go unpunished.

Workshop: CEDAW as tool for policy and practice

Program:

  • Saturday morning: How to incorporate into practice the tools provided by the CEDAW. Fundamental issues: shadow reports and tools for the presentation of cases.
  • Saturday afternoon: How, in practice, the CEDAW has made reparation possible to victims and other cases of Amnesty International’s good practice examples.

Participantes:

Staff from NGOs, human rights organizations, agencies, cooperation offices of the Generalitat de Catalunya, city councils, and members of feminist and social movements.
